What is First Responder training?
First responder training provides the skills a person needs to provide the care a person needs while in route to the hospital. They learn basic first aid training. They are generally the first people at the scene of an accident or responds to a medical emergency. They are there to assist the EMTs and Paramedics when they arrive at the scene. These are courses that can be found at community colleges, hospitals, and sometimes police stations. The first responder program is for people who want to become involved in the medical field, but want to make sure that they are cut out for it. This is not the first responder that is the first to arrive at a fire or police scene. The certified first responder has more medical training, and more of an ability to assist paramedics at the scene.
The first responder training program will teach students the basic skills they will need to respond to an accident. The course work with take around four months and is the approved material from the state that they will need to certify. Some of their training includes resuscitation of a patient, childbirth, lifting patients, how to handle bleeding, how to recognize certain symptoms, and illnesses. Students will also learn the legal and ethical side of the medical field. They will be tested on all of their coursework in the classroom and on the job to be certified in first responder training.
Practice exams will be available for them online or at their local hospital. They are required to meet the requirements the state approves for all medical technicians. Communication is something a first responder training program will place emphasis on. Students will need to learn how to communicate with their patient as well as the other medical professionals involved with the situation they are dealing with. Depending on what state the student is taking the first responder training in there might be a requirement to recertify every couple of years. This will allow them to ensure that they are on top of their game in the fast paced life of a first responder.
